Nate Buescher, a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is making waves as a rising star in the entertainment industry. Balancing college life and a lead role in Disney’s new musical comedy series, “Electric Bloom,” Buescher is navigating the challenges of academia and acting with remarkable success.

Originally from Chicago, Buescher’s career took off with appearances in various television shows, including the anthology series “Circuit Breakers.” In “Electric Bloom,” he portrays Lucas Jasper, a “poetic but clueless” high school student who befriends a pop music trio on the verge of global fame. While filming for the series wrapped up in July, Buescher is now focused on his studies while occasionally attending auditions and promotional events.

Choosing UW-Madison for Balance and Opportunity

Buescher chose the University of Wisconsin-Madison for its competitive academic environment and vibrant college atmosphere. “I wanted a school that was competitive to get into and would actually push me once I got there,” he said. He appreciates the university’s strong social scene, which includes Big Ten sports and a lively community that mirrors the dynamic feel of his hometown.

Currently, Buescher is pursuing a premed track with a major in biology, aspiring to specialize in dermatology. He finds the coursework in biology aligns perfectly with his interest in understanding the human body, particularly the skin.

Finding Joy in Both Acting and Academics

The energy of campus life has been a highlight for Buescher. He describes the atmosphere during football games, especially the famous “Jump Around” tradition, as “unreal.” He is currently pledging a fraternity, which adds to his college experience. “Meeting people who are smart, funny, and real has made it feel less like school and more like a place I want to be,” he noted.

Balancing his studies with an acting career has been manageable for Buescher. “Wrapping filming for this season at the end of July allowed me to focus on starting school,” he explained. He is grateful that his academic and professional pursuits complement rather than conflict with each other.

Reflecting on his time filming “Electric Bloom,” Buescher emphasizes the camaraderie among the cast. “The people. Learning from each other, building something together, laughing in between takes,” he shared. The support from Disney has made the experience even more rewarding, allowing him to be part of something significant in the entertainment industry.

Character Insights and Personal Connections

Buescher describes his character, Lucas, as the quintessential class crush who remains blissfully unaware of his charm. “He’s a mix of poetic and clueless,” Buescher said, highlighting Lucas’s loyalty and support for his friends in the band. “Lucas means well, even when he’s not totally sure what’s going on.”

He finds personal connections to Lucas, particularly in their shared loyalty and the ability to say something impactful, often without realizing its significance at the moment.

When it comes to preparing for his role, Buescher enjoys lighthearted moments with the cast, filled with practical jokes that set the tone for the show. Starting his day with an acai bowl, he keeps a stash of pink Starbursts in his dressing room for a sweet pick-me-up.

Outside of acting, Buescher is passionate about sports and music. He takes his fantasy football team seriously and has a long-standing love for hip-hop dance. He is also learning to play the guitar and believes in giving back to the community, continuing to prepare meals for those in need back in Chicago.

While on set, Buescher often showcases his school spirit, wearing University of Wisconsin gear and hanging a large Madison flag in his dressing room. His enthusiasm for his school is shared among his colleagues, including one of the show’s creators, Rachel Lewis.

As a recognizable figure on campus, Buescher has experienced moments of recognition from fellow students. “Usually, it’s chill,” he remarked, recalling an instance where someone approached him casually to express their appreciation for the show.

“Electric Bloom” premiered on Disney in July and is available for streaming on Disney+. Buescher’s journey as both a student and actor demonstrates a promising balance of ambition and authenticity, making him a noteworthy figure in both realms.
