Micro Farm in Altadena Reopens After Devastating Eaton Fire
UPDATE: A beloved micro farm in Altadena is reopening just weeks after suffering devastation during the Eaton Fire. Experience Fable, a family-run operation, is welcoming back visitors to interact with their animals, including chickens, sheep, and goats, as they rebuild their lives and community.
The Chavez family, who were forced to evacuate their home along with 70 animals, is making significant strides in recovery thanks to a crucial $10,000 grant from LISC LA’s Wildfire Relief Grant program, supported by Wells Fargo. “That grant came at the perfect time,” said White Chavez, reflecting on how the funds have helped restore their farm with new fencing and facilities.
The chaos of the evacuation saw their animals scattered across various locations, including a temporary stay at her mother-in-law’s home in Venice Beach, and the LA Equestrian Center. After being relocated to San Diego, the bulk of Experience Fable’s operations continued until they could return home. “All these guys have been on quite the journey,” White noted, emphasizing the resilience of both the family and their animals.
As they look forward, plans are in place for Experience Fable to host small local groups weekly until a permanent location is established in Altadena. “This is home. Somewhere here in the foothills, nature, beautiful place, that’s the next step,” White stated, encapsulating the family’s hope for a brighter future.
Experience Fable’s reopening signifies not just the return of a micro farm, but a pivotal community effort to recover from the devastating effects of the Eaton Fire. Residents and animal lovers are encouraged to visit and support this local initiative as it rebuilds and reconnects with the community.
Stay tuned for further updates on Experience Fable as they continue to grow and evolve in the wake of the wildfire’s impact.
