Family of Injured Girl Plans Lawsuit After Car Crash in Center Line
BREAKING: The family of a 9-year-old girl seriously injured in a vehicle crash at her Center Line home is preparing to file a lawsuit against the driver responsible. This urgent legal action follows a horrific incident that occurred around 3 a.m. on October 13, 2023, when a speeding SUV crashed into the home located near MacArthur Boulevard and O’Hare Street.
The girl, identified as Laila Breitshtrus, was thrown out of a window due to the impact, landing in the yard outside her home. Laila sustained three spinal injuries, a fractured nose, and a laceration to her liver, according to a GoFundMe page set up to assist her family with medical expenses.
Her attorney, David Femminineo of Femminineo Law, stated that the lawsuit is “anticipated.” However, the formal filing is pending the release of the police report and blood test results from the driver, Caris Adell Wade, a 20-year-old woman from Detroit.
Authorities report that Wade has been charged with reckless driving and failure to stop at the scene of a crash, with each charge carrying a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. She was arraigned in the 37th District Court, where her bond was set at $200,000. A probable cause conference in her case is scheduled for Wednesday.
Witnesses report that Wade fled the scene on foot but was apprehended shortly after. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido confirmed that Laila’s 22-month-old sister was also in the bedroom during the crash but fortunately remained unharmed.
Center Line Director of Public Safety Paul Myszenski described the terrifying scene, stating that the force of the crash ejected Laila from her bed, with first responders finding her lying on top of her bedroom window in the backyard.
