Remembering Carol Stent: A Life of Adventure and Compassion

Carol A. Stent, a beloved figure known for her adventurous spirit and deep compassion, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, David Nakahara, at the time of her passing. Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Carol’s life was marked by significant achievements, cherished relationships, and a profound love for all living beings.
A Journey Through Life
Carol was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis and grew up as the eldest among six siblings. She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation (SMA), where she formed lifelong friendships and was inspired by the teachings of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Her adventurous spirit led her and four classmates to San Francisco, California, where they pursued careers and found love. Carol’s striking beauty and zest for life caught the attention of Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern from England, during her time in Los Angeles. The couple married at the Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his residency at U.C.L.A..
Following their divorce in the 1980s, Carol found happiness with David Nakahara, an attorney practicing in Torrance, California. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989, and moved to Las Vegas in 1998, where they raised a total of seventeen pets, affectionately referred to as their “fur babies.”
A Life Devoted to Love and Care
Carol had an immense passion for animals and was known for her loving nature. She played a critical role in caring for David’s aging parents, offering support and guidance during their final years. Notably, this was while she was recovering from a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, showcasing her resilience and commitment to family.
Friends and family remember Carol not only for her physical beauty but also for her wit, determination, and ability to bring joy to those around her. Her legacy will continue through her surviving family members, including her sisters Paula Couture from Dracut, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino from Randolph, Massachusetts and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo from Conway, South Carolina.
As the family mourns her passing, they celebrate the life of a woman who illuminated the lives of many with her unwavering love and vibrant spirit. Carol’s final message resonated with her belief:
“Soli Deo Gloria . . . Only To God the Glory.”
