UPDATE: C.B. Collier Limited has just announced plans to revitalize derelict community sports land in Balderton, following a public exhibition that drew significant community interest. On October 15, 2023, the developer revealed two potential housing options for the former Flowserve Sports and Social Club site, located off Hawton Lane.

The urgent need for development comes after the site has remained abandoned since 2021, when a lease agreement with Newark FC, now known as Newark and Sherwood United, fell through. Since then, the land has faced issues with vandalism and antisocial behavior, highlighting the importance of community input in shaping its future.

Residents were invited to review the proposals and provide feedback, which the developers have pledged to “carefully consider” before finalizing their plans for submission. The proposed options include either the construction of 89 houses along with a new padel court facility, or 104 houses without any sports provision. Both plans incorporate approximately one hectare of green space and financial contributions for improvements to existing sports facilities in the community.

More than 100 people attended the exhibition, showcasing a strong community desire for revitalization. A representative from C.B. Collier stated, “The event was well-attended, and proved to be highly constructive. We were pleased to see a broad cross-section of the community engaging with our proposal and sharing their views with us.”

As the developers move forward, they anticipate submitting a planning application in early 2024. The feedback gathered from the community will play a critical role in refining the proposals, emphasizing the importance of local voices in the redevelopment process.

This development is crucial for Balderton, as it aims to transform a neglected area into a vibrant community space that meets housing needs and enhances local amenities. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to stay tuned for updates on this promising project, which could reshape the future of their community.
