Urgent Groundbreaking for Mercy Health-Wakeman Facility Today

UPDATE: A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Mercy Health — Wakeman Primary Care and Specialty Care facility took place today, October 15, 2023, at the construction site located at 472 U.S. 20 in Wakeman, Ohio. This vital project is set to enhance health care access for residents in Wakeman and surrounding communities in Huron County.
Officials confirm that construction began just weeks ago, and the facility is already ahead of schedule. “We’re off to a great start. I’m incredibly proud of our team,” said Nick Ross, of Ross Construction, the firm responsible for the design and construction of this important medical office building.
The new facility will mirror the Mercy Health — Wellington facility but will be slightly larger, featuring 15 exam rooms and a team of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff. This multidisciplinary approach ensures comprehensive care for patients’ preventative health needs. Dr. John Luellen, state president of Ohio Mercy Health, remarked, “This is truly an exciting day.”
The Mercy Health — Wakeman Primary Care and Specialty Care will provide a wide array of services, including primary and specialty care in fields such as orthopedics and cardiology, along with imaging and laboratory services for quicker results and seamless care coordination.
With the opening anticipated in just six months, this facility represents a significant investment by Mercy Health to elevate health care delivery in the region. “Mercy Health knows the needs of families are ever-changing, and we strive to meet those needs by providing high-quality, compassionate health care closer to home,” Dr. Luellen stated.
Vice President of Operations, Tyson Ringle, emphasized the commitment to community health: “By investing in Wakeman, we’re bringing essential services closer to home and making it easier for patients to get the care they need.”
Wakeman Mayor Chris Hipp expressed gratitude for the investment, stating, “I can’t thank Mercy Health enough for investing in our community. Our hearts are with you, and we’re behind you.”
This new facility is a part of a broader initiative by Bon Secours Mercy Health, which is among the 20 largest health systems in the U.S. and the fifth-largest Catholic health system. The organization serves nearly 14 million patients annually across more than 1,200 care sites, including hospitals and outpatient facilities.
As construction progresses, local residents can look forward to improved health care access and services that align with their evolving needs. Stay tuned for further updates as this significant project develops, marking a new chapter in health care for Wakeman and the surrounding areas.
