Oklahoma State University (OSU) officially broke ground on the **Boone Pickens Human Performance Innovation Complex (BPHPIC)** on October 7, 2023. Situated in the athletic village just north of the **Sherman E. Smith Training Center** in **Stillwater, Oklahoma**, this state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance research in human performance and health innovation.

Jim Hess, President of OSU, emphasized the significance of the complex during the groundbreaking ceremony. “This facility is more than bricks and mortar,” he stated. “It’s a bold testament to the land-grant mission that defines who we are at Oklahoma State University. The Boone Pickens Human Performance Innovation Complex will position OSU at the national forefront of performance science, and more importantly, it will improve the health, resilience, and well-being of Oklahomans for generations to come.”

The **BPHPIC** is designed to serve as a hub for the **Human Performance and Nutrition Research Institute (HPNRI)**. This institute will collaborate with various high-performance user groups, encompassing all aspects of performance science, from sports to occupational health and lifelong wellness.

Lance Walker, the executive director of HPNRI, highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the project. “The Boone Pickens Human Performance Innovation Complex will be a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration—where researchers, practitioners, athletes, and students work side by side to unlock human potential,” he explained. “I’m proud to lead a team committed to turning research into real-world solutions that elevate the health and performance of our communities.”

The groundbreaking event marks a significant milestone for OSU, which has consistently aimed to enhance educational and health outcomes in the region. The complex is expected to facilitate innovative research and training programs, ultimately benefiting both students and the wider community.

As OSU embarks on this ambitious project, the university reaffirms its commitment to serving the state of Oklahoma. The BPHPIC not only represents a physical investment in infrastructure but also a strategic move towards fostering a culture of health and performance excellence that will endure for years to come.
