UPDATE: In a stunning display of dominance, the Lynnville-Sully football team clinched the Class A District 6 championship with a resounding 56-6 victory over Colfax-Mingo on Friday night, October 6, 2023. This victory marks the Hawks’ sixth consecutive win and underscores their powerful season.

The Hawks jumped out to an explosive start, leading 35-0 at the end of the first quarter. Star player JD Richards shone brightly, scoring a career-best three touchdowns. Quarterback Connor Deal also had an impressive night, throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for another, setting a personal record with four total touchdowns.

Richards ignited the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run, quickly followed by a 49-yard touchdown run from Gavin Fisk. Deal connected with Jack Bowlin for a 17-yard touchdown pass before Richards added another touchdown with a 2-yard run. Fisk capped the first quarter by recovering a fumble in the end zone.

In the second quarter, Richards caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Deal, and Fisk continued to shine with a 66-yard touchdown catch in the third. Deal’s 6-yard touchdown run concluded the scoring for the night. The Hawks have outscored their district opponents a staggering 213-44 this season, further solidifying their championship status.

Deal completed 11 of 14 passes for a total of 207 yards while achieving a personal best in touchdowns. Fisk contributed significantly, rushing for 73 yards and one touchdown, while also achieving a career-high with 80 receiving yards on just two catches. The balanced attack saw eight different players carry the ball, ensuring a dynamic offense.

On defense, Kimball Elliott led with five tackles and one sack, while Landyn Fisk delivered a strong performance with three tackles, including a sack and two tackles for loss. The Hawks’ defensive unit was relentless, contributing to Colfax-Mingo’s struggles, which ended with just 113 total yards and a negative rushing total of -8 yards on ten carries.

The loss leaves Colfax-Mingo at 0-7 this season, with their only scoring coming from a 121-yard passing touchdown by Camden Cunningham to Alex Teed, marking Teed’s first varsity touchdown.

As the Hawks prepare for their final regular-season game, all eyes will be on their next performance as they aim to maintain momentum heading into the playoffs. With a perfect district record of 5-0, Lynnville-Sully looks poised to make a significant impact in the postseason.
