Sam’s Club Expands Hours to 8 a.m. Amid Overwhelming Demand

UPDATE: Sam’s Club is set to enhance shopping convenience by expanding its hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, starting this weekend, responding to overwhelming member feedback. This change is particularly significant for Sundays, when stores previously opened at 10 a.m., allowing shoppers more time during the busy holiday season.
Effective immediately, the first hour of shopping—from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.—will be exclusively for Plus members, mirroring the policy at rival Costco. Curbside pickup will also be available starting at 7 a.m., as Sam’s Club continues to focus on growing its e-commerce capabilities.
A spokesperson for Sam’s Club stated,
“We made this decision in response to overwhelming feedback from members — and just in time for the busy holiday season, when convenience matters most.”
The new hours signal a strategic move to enhance customer satisfaction and are designed to cater to the increasing demand for shopping flexibility. Notably, while Costco opens its executive membership at 9 a.m., Sam’s Club is granting its Plus members an earlier access window.
In addition to the new hours, Sam’s Club is keeping prices competitive with standard memberships priced at $50, compared to Costco’s $65. With the holiday shopping season approaching, these adjustments are expected to draw in more customers looking for convenience and value.
Sam’s Club’s fuel stations will operate from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., accommodating those who require fuel during extended hours. However, there are exceptions to the new schedule: stores will close early at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will remain closed on major holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Easter.
Both Sam’s Club and Costco have reported strong sales growth this year, outpacing traditional retailers such as Walmart and Target. According to market analytics firm Numerator, nearly half of American households have shopped at either warehouse club in the past year, illustrating the growing popularity of membership-based shopping.
As these changes take effect, consumers are encouraged to take advantage of the extended hours and increased accessibility. This development not only enhances the shopping experience for members but also positions Sam’s Club to better compete in the rapidly evolving retail landscape.
Stay tuned for more updates as the holiday season approaches and shopping dynamics continue to shift.
