Malta Gaming Authority Unveils Urgent Self-Assessment Tool for Gamblers

URGENT UPDATE: The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has just launched a groundbreaking online self-assessment tool aimed at helping gamblers evaluate their habits. This tool, available in both English and Maltese, is designed to provide immediate assistance to individuals with gambling tendencies.
This free-to-use resource features a 9-question questionnaire that analyzes a person’s gambling behavior. Based on the results, users will receive tailored information on how to seek further assistance if necessary. The MGA developed this tool in collaboration with several organizations, including Sedqa, Caritas Malta, the OASI Foundation, and the Responsible Gaming Foundation.
This initiative comes at a critical time, as recent reports indicate that gambling rates are surging globally. The MGA’s move is a direct response to the rising number of individuals engaging in gambling activities, particularly in the wake of increased accessibility through online platforms.
Gambling is becoming more prevalent worldwide, with the United States seeing a significant rise in gambling revenues, largely due to the popularization of sports betting. In Europe and the UK, easy access to gambling has contributed to this upward trend. Notably, Brazil has also introduced a verification tool aimed at curbing illegal online gambling websites.
To address concerns about fraudulent online gambling sites, the MGA has been vigilant in protecting consumers. In 2020, it revoked the license of PG Soft for falsely claiming MGA affiliation. Recently, the Filipino government scrutinized the online casino PHLove after it was found lacking certification from any of its claimed licensees.
The MGA emphasizes that this self-assessment tool is designed to be user-friendly and ensures anonymity for its users, making it accessible to those in need. As gambling behaviors evolve, such initiatives are crucial in promoting responsible gaming and providing support where needed.
Moving forward, the MGA urges all gamblers to utilize this new tool to better understand their gambling habits. As the landscape of gambling continues to change rapidly, monitoring and assessing one’s behavior has never been more important.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story and how it impacts gambling regulations in Malta and beyond.
