UPDATE: The 2026 Vallejo Fire Department/Humane Society of the North Bay fundraising calendar is now available, featuring adorable pets alongside local firefighters. Just announced, this exciting initiative aims to raise funds for both animal rescue efforts and vital fire safety programs in Vallejo.

Every calendar page showcases firefighters proudly posing with lovable dogs and cats, all captured in heartwarming scenes. The calendar’s theme, “To the Rescue!”, highlights the heroic work of firefighters and the journey of each featured pet, many of whom have been rescued or rehomed.

This project marks the first collaboration between the Vallejo Humane Society and the firefighters since the pandemic, making it a significant moment for both organizations. Volunteer Mei Wang shared how the partnership came to be: “During the Vallejo Waterfront Festival, I spoke to Capt. Kevin Brown about fundraising ideas, and he loved the concept of a calendar.”

The calendar features a variety of photos, including playful shots of pets lounging, racing, and even posing on surfboards. Each purchase directly contributes to community support, with $20 suggested as a donation amount. Since launching just days ago, nearly $3,000 has already been raised.

Photographers Lisa Szucs and Maria Long generously donated their services, capturing the delightful interactions between the firefighters and shelter pets. “It was heartwarming to see how much the Vallejo Fire team cares for the animals,” Szucs noted.

Initially, recruiting firefighters for the calendar proved challenging. Brown explained, “Firefighters are camera-shy,” adding a humorous twist about the ice cream rule that follows any public photo. Despite this, over 20 firefighters ultimately participated, showcasing their dedication to both the calendar and the community.

The proceeds will support the Solano-Napa Firefighters Foundation, which aids individuals encountered during emergency calls and offers scholarships for aspiring first responders. Brown recounted a recent instance where the foundation helped a family whose home was lost in a fire, even assisting with re-cutting car keys.

This unique fundraising effort is a win-win for the community, combining the love for animals with the bravery of local firefighters. The calendar is available for order through the Humane Society’s donation page at https://hsnb.networkforgood.com/projects/257016-to-the-rescue-the-2026-vfd-hsnb-fundraising-calendar.
