UPDATE: Winneshiek County 4-H is celebrating a monumental 100 years of youth leadership, learning, and service! Starting today, the community kicks off National 4-H Week, running from October 5-11, 2025, with exciting activities planned to showcase the pride and achievements of local 4-H members.

On Monday, October 6, 4-H members, alumni, and supporters are encouraged to “Go Green” to demonstrate their commitment to this century-old organization. Throughout the week, youth will engage in community service projects, visit local fourth-grade classrooms to promote 4-H opportunities, and participate in radio interviews, amplifying their impact in the community.

The celebration has already begun with the 4-H Omelet Breakfast held in March, where commemorative clothing, souvenirs, and a special 4-H cookbook were launched. Members gathered at the 2025 Winneshiek County Fair recently to capture the spirit of their 4-H family in a memorable photograph.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for November 9, 2025. The annual 4-H awards program and spaghetti supper will take place at the Community Building on the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds. The meal starts at 5 p.m. followed by the awards at 6 p.m.. Tickets are just $10 per person, with a reduced price of $5 for children aged 9 and under. An RSVP is required, and you can register online at bit.ly/100Winn4-H.

Winneshiek County 4-H has evolved significantly since its inception in 1925, when only 26 boys and 24 girls were enrolled. Today, the organization boasts 15 clubs with 255 members in grades four through twelve, along with 104 Clover Kid members in kindergarten through third grade. Current clubs include the Decorah Chiefs, Glenwood 4-H, and the Prairie Shooting Stars, among others.

The County Council, comprised of 25 high school 4-H members, actively promotes 4-H during National 4-H Week and organizes community service projects, ensuring that the legacy of 4-H continues to thrive in Winneshiek County.

To stay connected with local 4-H initiatives or to get involved, contact the Winneshiek County Extension Office at 563-382-2949 or visit extension.iastate.edu/winneshiek. Don’t miss out on the chance to celebrate a century of impactful youth development in your community!
