URGENT UPDATE: The Carroll Tigers are set to host the Creston Panthers tonight, October 6, 2023, in a critical matchup in Class 3A District 6. Carroll, fresh off a commanding 35-0 victory over Greene County, aims to maintain their momentum against a Creston team still searching for its first win this season.

With a current district record of 2-0 and an overall record of 3-3, the Tigers are tied for the district lead with Atlantic. In last week’s impressive performance, running back Adam Malik shone with two rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Camden King contributed two touchdown passes, showcasing the Tigers’ offensive prowess.

“When Carroll got the ball, they were methodical down the field,” said Creston coach Brian Morrison.

As the Tigers look to build on their winning streak, Creston’s defense faces a substantial challenge. Coach Morrison noted the strengths of Carroll’s athletes, emphasizing their capable running game and a quarterback who makes impactful plays. “Their quarterback is a good athlete… They don’t throw the football a lot,” he added, highlighting the need for his team to step up defensively.

Creston enters the game with a disheartening 0-5 record, struggling to contain opponents’ offenses. Last week, they faced a challenging defeat against Harlan, allowing a staggering 381 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Coach Morrison reflected on the defensive lapses, attributing some issues to the absence of key players.

Injury reports reveal that Creston’s safety David Sandoval is out for the season due to a separated hip labrum, while linebacker Brodrick Phelps is sidelined with a broken finger. These absences could significantly impact Creston’s defensive strategies as they prepare to face a formidable Carroll offense.

Despite the struggles, Morrison is optimistic about his team’s potential, particularly with freshman Gabe Kaufman stepping up at linebacker and Jackson Pettegrew leading the offensive charge with 497 rushing yards and several touchdowns this season. The offensive line, featuring players like Garrick Clausen and Chasse Downing, will be crucial in supporting their efforts against a tough Carroll defense.

As the game approaches, the stakes are high for both teams. Carroll seeks to solidify its position at the top of the district, while Creston aims to turn their season around. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Carroll’s home field, and fans are eager to see if the Panthers can finally break their winless streak.
