The highly anticipated Sick New World festival will return in 2026, following its cancellation for 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances. Serj Tankian, frontman of the band System of a Down, confirmed the band’s headlining status during a recent signing event, much to the excitement of fans. Footage from the event circulated widely, showing Tankian assuring a fan of the band’s participation in the festival next year.

This announcement comes after the festival’s organizers had previously confirmed headlining acts such as Metallica and Linkin Park for the 2025 event. Unfortunately, the plans fell through in November 2024. In an official statement, organizers expressed their disappointment, stating, “It is with great disappointment that we announce that Sick New World will no longer take place in Las Vegas on April 12, 2025.” They further explained that they encountered circumstances that could not be overcome for the planned show.

Organizers thanked fans for their support and mentioned that tickets purchased directly from Front Gate tickets would be refunded to the original payment method within 30 days.

Future of System of a Down and New Music Possibilities

In related news, Tankian recently discussed the possibility of new music from System of a Down during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk. While he stated, “Not at this time,” he indicated that the band members are involved in various musical projects. Tankian mentioned that Daron Malakian has released a new record with his band, Scars On Broadway, which he encouraged fans to check out.

Tankian noted the importance of creative alignment within the band, stating, “It’s not about whether we all want to make a record. It’s about whether we see it the same way creatively. If we don’t, it’s not worth doing. If we do, then it’s worth doing.” This sentiment reflects the band’s collaborative approach to music, which has defined their unique sound over the years.

As excitement builds for the return of Sick New World in 2026, fans of System of a Down and the wider music community await further announcements regarding both the festival and the band’s future projects. With Tankian’s confirmation and ongoing individual pursuits, the next chapter for these iconic musicians appears to be on the horizon.
