URGENT UPDATE: The Great Bend Public Library is kicking off the spooky season with a series of thrilling events this week that you won’t want to miss! Grab your calendar, as there are exciting activities lined up starting today, October 4, 2023.

This afternoon at 11 a.m., join us for Genealogy Corner, where you can explore your family history. Later, at 6 p.m., get ready for “Delicious Dishes with Lisa,” featuring mouth-watering retro recipes that will transport your taste buds back in time!

On Friday, the excitement continues with Casual Game Friday for teens in grades 6-12. Prepare to fight like a luchador in the vibrant world of “Guacamelee!” as you battle through an action-packed adventure inspired by Mexican culture. Don’t forget your mask!

Also on Friday at 7 p.m., adults can delve into a spine-chilling horror film that promises to keep you on the edge of your seat. This thrilling movie portrays space colonizers confronting a horrifying life form inside a derelict space station—perfect for fans of the macabre!

On Saturday, October 7, at 6 p.m., paranormal investigator Amanda will share her ghost-hunting experiences both locally and beyond, appealing to all fans of “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Files.” This is an incredible opportunity to learn about the eerie world of the supernatural!

Next, get ready to push back against censorship on Monday, October 9, with a custom Banned Book Button-making session from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and again from 2-3 p.m.. Show your rebellious spirit by participating in this engaging activity for all ages!

October is also Fire Prevention Month, and on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., children are invited to join the Great Bend Fire Department for a special Story Time. Kids will enjoy a book reading and have the chance to see real firefighting equipment up close!

Additionally, the library offers its regular Genealogy Thursday at 11 a.m., followed by a special Teen Café from 4-5:30 p.m., where participants can craft Pizza Slime—just for fun!

Wednesday promises a wealth of knowledge with a Digital Literacy Class focused on Internet safety from noon to 1 p.m.. Plus, tweens in grades 3-5 can join the new Tweentober event, “Builders Assemble! LEGO Waterworks Challenge,” to showcase their creativity!

Finally, on Thursday, October 12, the library will host an Adult Craft session at 6 p.m., where attendees can transform ordinary bottles into stunning glass pumpkins—just in time for the holiday spirit!
