ALBANY, GA – Urgent Update: The Dougherty County Public Library has officially launched a crucial partnership with Helping Mamas to distribute essential diapers and women’s hygiene products, making a significant impact on local families. This program, which began its official run in July, follows a successful test phase started in May.

Distribution events are held at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Central Library downtown and at the Tallulah Massey Library, located at 2004 Stratford Drive. The next distribution is scheduled for October 1, 2023. Hundreds of diapers have already been distributed, with leftover supplies made available to families after the event.

Library Administrative Secretary Krista Dixon emphasizes the community’s response: “We have parents that come. Sometimes it’s new moms. We even have dads come out.” The program not only provides essential supplies but also encourages families to engage with library resources. “Kids check out exciting things at the library,” Dixon shared. “We tell them you can take a book home. We give library cards while they’re getting their supplies. It’s super exciting.”

In addition to this partnership, the library is collaborating with the Dougherty County 4-H Club. Their first joint initiative takes place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, featuring a hydroponics garden at the Southside Library. “It’s amazing. I’ve seen videos,” Dixon added, highlighting the enthusiasm around this innovative project.

The Dougherty County Public Library’s collaboration with Helping Mamas is a vital service for many families in the community, showcasing the importance of local partnerships in addressing urgent needs. With the next distribution just days away, families are encouraged to attend and benefit from these essential resources.

Stay tuned for more updates as the library continues to expand its outreach efforts and community involvement.
