Albany Symphony’s Gala “A Night at the Oscars” Set for Saturday

UPDATE: The Albany Symphony Orchestra is gearing up for an exciting gala, “A Night at the Oscars,” this Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Merry Acres Event Center. This highly anticipated event promises to spotlight the orchestra’s talented musicians while raising funds for music education programs.
Just announced by ASO Board President Staci Willson and Musical Director Claire Fox Hillard, the gala aims to create a unique experience where concert-goers can interact with the musicians in a more intimate setting. Hillard emphasized, “When people go to a concert, they see the musicians onstage, performing, but they don’t get the opportunity to interact with them.”
The evening will feature performances from several groups including the Brass Ensemble, harpist Sara Burden, and a String Quartet, among others. The Brass Ensemble, featuring musicians such as Samuel Jones and Noah Thomas, will perform movie selections as part of the gala’s theme.
In addition to live music, attendees can enjoy a silent auction, a seated dinner, and a cocktail hour. Willson noted, “The public is invited to experience an unforgettable evening with the Albany Symphony Orchestra,” highlighting the event’s dual purpose as a fundraiser for the symphony’s education program.
This year’s gala not only marks the official kickoff of the 2025-26 season but also emphasizes the orchestra’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of music lovers.
Musicians like Kathryn Troy, a cellist with a doctorate in her field, and Gabriel Grant, an accomplished oboist, are excited to participate. Troy shared her passion for music began unexpectedly, stating, “I realized I’d found my passion.” Grant, who has performed with multiple orchestras across the country, is eager to join the Albany music community.
As the clock ticks down to the gala, excitement is building. Tickets are still available for those looking to support the Albany Symphony Orchestra while enjoying an evening filled with extraordinary music and community spirit.
This gala presents an exceptional opportunity to engage with the musicians and help enhance the symphony’s educational initiatives. For ticket purchases and more information, visit the Albany Symphony Orchestra’s official website. Don’t miss out on this chance to be part of a memorable night!
