SpaceX Set to Launch 24 Starlink Satellites from Vandenberg

SpaceX is poised to launch its latest batch of broadband satellites as part of the Starlink 17-10 mission on Saturday, adding 24 new satellites to its growing constellation in low Earth orbit. The launch will take place from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, with liftoff scheduled for 8:41 a.m. PDT (11:41 a.m. EDT / 1541 UTC). This mission marks SpaceX’s 42nd launch from California this year.
The Starlink 17-10 mission will utilize a Falcon 9 rocket, specifically the first stage booster designated as B1071. This booster has an impressive track record, being set to embark on its 28th flight after previously launching 16 batches of Starlink satellites, alongside five missions for the National Reconnaissance Office and four rideshare missions.
Significant Milestone for Starlink Constellation
Following the successful deployment of the new satellites, SpaceX will reach a milestone of over 8,400 satellites in low Earth orbit, according to data tracked by orbital expert Jonathan McDowell. This expansion is part of SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to provide global broadband internet access, particularly in underserved regions.
Approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff, SpaceX aims to recover the B1071 booster by landing it on its drone ship, named ‘Of Course I Still Love You.’ If successful, this recovery will mark the 151st successful recovery for this vessel and the 504th booster landing overall in SpaceX’s history.
Spaceflight Now will provide live coverage of the launch, starting about 30 minutes prior to liftoff, allowing space enthusiasts and the public to witness this pivotal moment in SpaceX’s mission to enhance global internet connectivity.
