Dancers Shine at NTD’s 11th International Classical Chinese Dance Competition

The NTD International Classical Chinese Dance Competition is showcasing exceptional talent at the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in Chester, New York. This year marks the 11th edition of the event, where dancers from across the globe demonstrate the rich cultural heritage of classical Chinese art.
The competition kicked off with junior dancers taking the stage on Thursday, followed by adult competitors who displayed their skills and emotional depth on Friday. Participants are required to perform a choreographed piece while incorporating specific techniques. The adult division features more complex routines that include advanced leaps, flips, and expressive storytelling.
Linjie Huang, a seasoned contestant, shared her thoughts on the rigorous training involved in preparing for the competition. “The biggest challenge is really the training process. I’ve competed many times before, but it’s been six or seven years since my last time,” Huang stated. “I know how grueling it can be—you often feel like giving up, or even that you’re dancing worse than before. It takes relentless effort. Even though I prepared myself mentally, going through it again still requires a lot of perseverance.”
The competition not only highlights individual talent but also emphasizes the cultural significance of classical Chinese dance. Each performance is a reflection of the dancers’ dedication to preserving and promoting this art form. The diverse backgrounds of the participants enrich the event, demonstrating the universal appeal of classical dance.
As the participants move through the preliminary rounds, judges assess their technical skill, artistry, and overall presentation. This evaluation process ensures that the competition maintains high standards while celebrating the unique expressions of classical Chinese culture.
The event continues to attract a wide audience, eager to witness the beauty and discipline inherent in classical dance. The NTD Classical Chinese Dance Competition not only serves as a platform for emerging talent but also fosters a greater appreciation for this traditional art form on an international scale.
