Urgent Recall: 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokees at Risk of Power Loss

BREAKING: Over 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees are being recalled due to a critical software error that may cause a dangerous “loss of drive power,” according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This urgent recall, announced today, affects 2022 to 2026 plug-in hybrid electric models of the SUV, posing a serious risk of potential crashes without warning.
The NHTSA has confirmed that the defect is linked to the vehicle’s hybrid control processor, which could lead to an unexpected loss of propulsion. “An unexpected loss of propulsion can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning,” the NHTSA stated in their safety recall report. Fortunately, Chrysler reported no injuries or accidents related to this issue as of August 18, 2023.
Chrysler, part of the automotive giant Stellantis, is currently developing a remedy for this pressing issue. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting October 23, 2023. In addition, impacted owners can verify if their vehicle is included in the recall by searching their VIN number on the NHTSA website beginning September 11, 2023.
For immediate assistance, Jeep owners can also reach out to Chrysler’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403. This recall follows a previous incident last year where over 330,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees were recalled due to a steering wheel issue that could lead to loss of control, highlighting ongoing concerns about the vehicle’s safety.
Stay tuned for further updates as Chrysler and the NHTSA work to address this urgent safety matter. Share this information with others to ensure they are aware of the potential risks associated with their vehicles.
