Deerfield-Windsor Defeats Southwest Georgia, Remains Undefeated

UPDATE: In an electrifying showdown on Friday night, October 6, 2023, Deerfield-Windsor stunned Southwest Georgia Academy (SGA) with a decisive 28-8 victory at Addison Field, handing the Warriors their first loss of the season. The Knights, now boasting a perfect record of 4-0, avenged last year’s humiliating defeat with a commanding performance.
Deerfield-Windsor quarterback Lane Sceals was on fire, completing 23 of 30 passes for 267 yards, including three touchdown passes. Sceals also showcased his versatility with a rushing touchdown, leading the Knights to an impressive 28-0 lead by halftime. His primary target, Gabe Daniel, was a standout, catching eight passes for 101 yards and scoring two touchdowns in the first half.
“We played a great first half,” said Deerfield-Windsor head coach Jake McCrae. “But when you play a great team like Southwest Georgia, you’ve got to play all four quarters with the same intensity and poise. We lost our poise in the second half, and it cost us. We got out of there with a win but we have to start understanding that it is a four-quarter game.”
Sceals opened the scoring with a dynamic 14-yard touchdown run on the Knights’ initial drive. He then connected with Daniel for touchdowns of 13 yards and 30 yards, extending the Knights’ dominance throughout the first half. A third-quarter touchdown run by Brantley Michlig solidified their lead at 28-0.
SGA finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter when Jon Mason Calhoun connected with Brody Enfinger for a touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion pass to Briggs Kelley. However, their comeback attempt fell short as Deerfield-Windsor maintained control despite some late-game penalties and two player ejections.
The Knights’ victory not only marks their fourth consecutive win but also serves as a testament to their growth and resilience after last year’s defeat. Looking ahead, Deerfield-Windsor will face a challenging rivalry matchup against Terrell Academy next week in Dawson, while SGA, now 2-1, returns home to host Brookstone.
As the Knights celebrate this hard-fought win, Coach McCrae’s message remains clear: redemption earned, but valuable lessons still to learn.
