Sports betting company FanDuel has announced the restoration of express service on the SEPTA Broad Street Line for the Philadelphia Eagles’ home opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 14, 2023. This initiative aims to provide fans with reliable transportation to and from Lincoln Financial Field, ensuring they can enjoy the highly anticipated game.

As part of this partnership, subway trains will operate on their regular schedule before and after the match. Additionally, FanDuel will cover free rides home starting at halftime, allowing fans to travel without the worry of additional costs. SEPTA’s fleet of express and local trains will be stationed at NRG Station to accommodate fans immediately following the game.

Scott Sauer, SEPTA‘s general manager, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in a press release. “This is a challenging time for SEPTA and our customers, but this partnership will ensure that Eagles fans have safe, clean, and reliable service to and from the game — and with the added bonus of free rides home,” Sauer stated.

The backdrop of this partnership is a significant budget crisis facing SEPTA, which has led to the reduction of several essential transit lines, including the popular Sports Express routes. The transit agency has been grappling with financial constraints, prompting service cuts that have affected many commuters.

In light of the ongoing challenges, the Philadelphia Eagles issued a travel advisory urging fans without tickets to avoid the Sports Complex to help minimize congestion. The team has recommended that ticketed fans arrive early and consider carpooling to ease traffic.

Last week, SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch noted that fans could expect longer waits for transportation after the game due to the service adjustments. He also highlighted that restoring the Sports Express trains would require approximately $100,000.

The Eagles’ president, Don Smolenski, expressed gratitude towards both FanDuel and SEPTA for their efforts. “We appreciate FanDuel and SEPTA for collaborating to help provide Eagles fans with convenient transportation to and from our home opener,” Smolenski remarked. He underscored that this support would enhance the experience for fans attending the game.

With the opening game approaching, the collaboration between FanDuel and SEPTA reflects a commitment to improving fan experience, particularly during a time of significant operational challenges for the transit authority. As the Eagles prepare to face their division rivals, fans can look forward to a smooth journey to and from Lincoln Financial Field.
