Urgent: Trump Administration Pushes Back Against Epstein File Vote

UPDATE: The White House has issued a stern warning to Republican lawmakers regarding a potential vote to release full details of the Jeffrey Epstein files, labeling such actions as “a very hostile act” against President Donald Trump. This development comes as the GOP-controlled House Oversight and Government Reform Committee released over 33,000 documents related to Epstein on Tuesday evening, prompting a fierce bipartisan debate.

During a closed-door meeting with victims of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, the committee unveiled these documents; however, 97 percent of the contents had already been made public. Republicans, led by Rep. Thomas Massie, are now pushing for a vote to release all remaining Epstein documents, creating a divide within the party.

Massie, who has frequently clashed with Trump, stated, “People want these files released. It’s not the biggest issue in the country, but you really can’t solve any of that if this place is corrupt.” Alongside Rep. Ro Khanna, he is spearheading a discharge petition aimed at forcing a full release of the files. They currently need just two more GOP signatures to reach the necessary 218 votes.

As of Tuesday night, notable Republicans including Nancy Mace, Lauren Boebert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene have signed the petition. Mace, visibly emotional after meeting with Epstein’s victims, revealed she is a “recent survivor.” Massie claims the Trump administration is applying significant pressure to derail the vote. “There’s a major pressure campaign from the White House right now,” he asserted.

“Helping Thomas Massie and Liberal Democrats with their attention-seeking… would be viewed as a very hostile act to the administration,”

a White House official told CNN.

Despite the White House’s stance, Greene, a staunch Trump ally, publicly supported Massie’s efforts, stating, “I’m committed to doing everything possible for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein.” This indicates a potential rift in the party regarding the Epstein case.

Massie emphasized that Trump’s supporters desire transparency on Epstein, even as the president avoids the topic. “I think he thinks he can just make this go away,” Massie remarked, adding that he believes more Republicans will ultimately back the petition.

The documents released on Tuesday were scrutinized by Rep. Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the Oversight Committee, who criticized the Republicans for the lack of new information. “There is no mention of any client list or anything that improves transparency or justice for victims,” he stated. Garcia accused House Republicans of creating a spectacle with already-public documents.

Khanna reiterated the need for full disclosure, stating, “The President of the United States ran on releasing the files… we should release everything and trust the American people to make a distinguishing discernment.” His comments reflect the growing demand for transparency in government operations related to Epstein.

As pressure builds on Republicans to act, all eyes are on the House Oversight Committee as they prepare for the next steps in this developing story. The ramifications of this vote could have significant implications for the GOP and its alignment with Trump’s base as the midterm elections approach.

Stay tuned for updates as this story unfolds. The urgency for transparency surrounding the Epstein files has never been more pronounced, and the outcome could reshape public trust in government accountability.
