UPDATE: Marshall ISD has officially rededicated the newly renovated Maverick Stadium during a special Meet the Mavs event on August 21, 2023. The vibrant atmosphere brought together students, staff, and community members to celebrate the revitalization of “the house that the Mavericks built.”

Superintendent Dr. Richele Langley expressed her gratitude to attendees, highlighting the importance of community support in this significant transformation. “Thank you for coming out to support our students and staff, and to be the first to participate within our newly renovated Maverick Stadium,” she stated.

Board President Brad Buriss emphasized the stadium’s legacy, stating, “This place has been here a little over 45 years, and it was in need of a much-needed renovation.” The district prioritized upgrades to ensure a better experience for future generations of Mavericks.

The renovation project features extensive improvements, including a new restroom and concession area for the home side, renovations to the visitor facilities, new aluminum seating throughout, updated pavement, enhanced safety fencing, ADA upgrades, and a Hall of Champions victory wall showcasing the success of past teams.

Dr. Langley recognized the contributions of key individuals who made this project possible, including board members, administrators, project manager, and architect Goodman Lassiter Architectural Designs, along with contractor Casey Slone Construction.

A heartfelt moment took place as the district honored Coach Joe Martino, a beloved figure with over 50 years of service. The Maverick film room was renamed in his honor, celebrating his dedication that spans back to the stadium’s original location on West Houston. “Coach Martino has shown an unwavering commitment to our Marshall Mavericks for over 50 years,” Langley remarked.

As the crowd gathered, a plaque will be prominently displayed in the press box to commemorate Martino’s invaluable contributions. “As all of our Mavericks use this field, let us honor our past, celebrate our present and embrace our future,” she added.

In a poignant moment, attendees observed a moment of silence for Estefani Cabrera, a 15-year-old Marshall High School student who tragically passed away following a medical emergency on August 18. The community came together to honor her memory, adding an emotional layer to the evening’s celebrations.

With the rededication of Maverick Stadium, Marshall ISD is poised to continue its legacy, fostering unity and excellence for years to come. “This is your house and this is our legacy. We rededicate it in excellence, tradition, and unity,” Langley concluded, inviting all to embrace the future of Maverick athletics.

Stay tuned for more developments as the Mavericks embark on their new chapter in a revitalized home stadium.
