Jeff Weimer Officially Joins West Virginia Football Roster for 2025

Jeffrey Weimer, a wide receiver transfer from Idaho State University, is now officially part of the West Virginia University (WVU) football roster for the upcoming 2025 season. His eligibility had been previously uncertain due to delays from the NCAA. However, a recent court ruling has clarified his status.
Earlier this month, Weimer and three teammates—running back Tye Edwards, bandit Jimmori Robinson, and safety Justin Harrington—filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. Judge John Preston Bailey ruled in favor of the players, requiring the NCAA to grant them eligibility and issuing a temporary restraining order that enabled their participation.
Weimer’s Journey to West Virginia
Weimer’s football career has spanned several institutions. He played at City College of San Francisco and Hartnell College before transferring to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and, most recently, Idaho State. In the 2022 season with UNLV, Weimer recorded 26 receptions for 278 yards and one touchdown. After taking a hiatus for the entire 2023 season, he returned to the field at Idaho State, where he excelled, achieving 75 receptions for 1,016 yards and six touchdowns in his sole season there.
As for how Weimer fits into WVU’s plans, he has primarily been utilized as an outside receiver, capable of playing both the X and Z positions. Despite his versatility, competition for playing time is fierce, particularly behind starting receivers Cam Vaughn at the X position and Jaden Bray at the Z position.
Anticipated Impact and Competition
With the depth chart set, Weimer is expected to compete for playing time against other candidates, including Justin Smith-Brown, a transfer from South Carolina State, and Logan Ramper, who transferred from Slippery Rock. While it is likely he will see some action in the season opener against Robert Morris, it is expected that he will not be rushed into significant snaps given the limited time frame between the ruling and the first game.
WVU’s coaching staff may prioritize gradually integrating Weimer into the lineup, allowing him to acclimate to the team. In the meantime, Preston Fox is anticipated to fill in as the WRX2 for the initial match.
As the Mountaineers prepare for the 2025 season, fans will be eager to see how Weimer’s addition affects the team’s dynamics and offensive strategies. With a strong collegiate background, his performance could significantly influence WVU’s success in the upcoming season.
