New Philadelphia Superintendent Amy Wentworth Leads Ohio School Administrators

New Philadelphia City Schools Superintendent Amy Wentworth has been elected as the new president of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA). Wentworth, who took office on August 12, 2023, is notably only the sixth woman to assume this role in BASA’s history. The organization serves as a professional association for school superintendents, central office administrators, and educational leaders across Ohio, focusing on the advancement of educational leadership and excellence in public schools.
Since becoming superintendent in New Philadelphia in 2021, Wentworth has demonstrated a commitment to improving educational outcomes. Her tenure has included initiatives in district facility planning, the development of learning pathways aimed at preparing students for college, and a consistent record of improvements reflected in the State Report Card.
“I am honored to serve as BASA’s 56th president,” Wentworth said in a statement. “I appreciate the chance to represent school leaders throughout Ohio, advocate for the needs of students and educators, and continue the vital work of strengthening our public schools.”
Commitment to Educational Leadership
Wentworth’s leadership approach emphasizes collaboration and advocacy. In her new role, she will work closely with BASA’s executive board and its members to tackle significant challenges and opportunities facing public education in Ohio.
“Amy Wentworth is deeply respected across Ohio for her commitment to students, her collaborative leadership style, and her unwavering dedication to public education,” said David Axner, executive director of BASA. “We are proud to have her serve as BASA’s next president and are confident that she will continue to amplify the voice of Ohio’s school leaders.”
As she steps into this leadership position, Wentworth aims to address various issues impacting public schools, including funding, educational policy, and the ongoing development of educational programs. Her vision seeks to enhance the quality of education and ensure that every student in Ohio has access to the resources they need to succeed.
This appointment not only marks a significant milestone for Wentworth but also reflects the growing recognition of female leaders in educational administration. Her presidency is expected to inspire future generations of women in leadership roles within the education sector.
