Bethlehem Police Academy Seeks Applicants for Fall Course
The Bethlehem Citizens Police Academy is currently accepting applications for its upcoming fall session of the Citizens Police Academy. This initiative aims to provide community members with an in-depth understanding of the operations of the Bethlehem Police Department. However, the program may be canceled if public interest does not increase, as only four individuals have applied so far.
The Citizens Police Academy spans eight weeks, during which participants gain insight into various aspects of police work. Officers from the department facilitate the sessions, covering topics such as the hiring process, training procedures, criminal investigations, and community policing. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to engage with officers, asking questions about their roles and experiences.
According to a news release from the police department, the academy’s primary objective is to “enhance the relationship between the police department and the community,” fostering a better understanding of the services police provide and what citizens can expect from their officers.
The application deadline for the academy is set for August 29, 2023, and classes are scheduled to begin on September 10, 2023. Sessions will be held every Wednesday from 18:30 to 20:30 at the Bethlehem Police Department headquarters. Interested individuals can find additional information and the application process on the city’s official website.
The low number of applicants raises concerns about the future of the academy, as noted by the city’s public information officer. Without renewed interest from the community, the police department may be compelled to cancel this valuable educational opportunity.
